[Gurye/1 Night] Jirisan Mountain Views, Juniper Forest Garden + Walking Meditation + 1 Meal🌲
I took a trip to Gurye with my mom and her friend. The traffic was so bad that we barely managed to stop by Hwaeomsa Temple before heading back to our accommodation. It was lovely to stroll through the juniper forest while enjoying a cup of welcome tea (both the flower tea and mugwort tea smelled and tasted great). We went out for freshwater snail sujebi for dinner and walked through the bamboo forest before returning to find it pitch black. With all the staff gone home and us the only ones left, it was beyond quiet—it felt a little scary. I think it might have been less so if there had been a TV... but since there were no other guests in the room, it felt even more so. Others might actually consider that part of its charm. Still, the room condition was good, and since we each had our own bed, we slept comfortably. The morning sunlight and the juniper forest visible through the window looked so beautiful, which was nice. It was really great to start the morning by drinking mugwort tea from the teapot provided by the accommodation and eating some delicious snacks. However, the breakfast was quite disappointing. It wasn't the kind of bread I had seen in the reviews. Bagels and salt bread? It wasn't even bakery bread, but just regular factory-made bread—frozen and then thawed in the microwave—so it was cold, stiff, and tasteless. As for the coffee, there was no choice but to order Americano. My mom and her friend actually prefer instant coffee mix, but we received a call at 7:48 telling us to come down for breakfast. It seemed everything was already prepared by then... We went down right on time at 8:00. I also like hot Americano, but this was a cold Americano with way too much water added. My mom and her friend said they wanted flower tea instead, but they were told flower tea wasn't available and only mugwort tea was allowed. So they ended up drinking the mugwort tea they had already had that morning. No matter how good it is for the body... it was a breakfast drink provided without any choice. On top of that, when I asked if they could briefly heat the bread in the air fryer because it was too cold, they said they didn't have one and offered to heat it in the microwave instead. They asked if it was still cold since they had already microwaved it before coming down... It is basic knowledge that bread gets tough when microwaved... If you are having breakfast... I think an air fryer should be a basic necessity. I understand factory-made bread, but serving frozen bread heated in a microwave felt like going too far. Or perhaps you could have provided a toaster and served freshly baked bread... I ate a little bread, but ended up only eating the tomatoes and strawberries. What kind of bread did I see in other people's reviews? Although it says it varies from time to time, the difference was so huge that I felt incredibly sorry for my mom and her friend. In particular, the unidentified bread that looked like salt bread was so dry that the three of us only managed to eat one. You wouldn't freeze leftover bread and give it to others, would you? I even wondered if it dried out because it was served that way... I doubt that's the case, but I wish the owner would try it themselves. It was that bad... My mom and I really love bread, so we rarely leave any behind... The man who served us the bread was there for just a moment and then disappeared. We wondered if we had to clean up ourselves, so we tidied up and moved the space to the kitchen. We decided to walk around the forest barefoot, but our feet were freezing. Although it is still a cold season, I heard that barefoot walking was possible, so I was hoping there might be at least a bit of a red clay path, but there wasn't anything like that... Since I occasionally walk barefoot with my mom, I had high expectations, but I guess I expected too much... The owner was really kind and nice, and the driver who offered to pick us up, whom we met by chance in the forest, was also very friendly. Thanks to him, we found a great restaurant and enjoyed some freshwater snail sujebi. Also, the wild vegetable bibimbap restaurant the owner recommended was amazing for lunch~ It was great to be able to leave Gurye after having such a delicious lunch. It is still a cold season, but since I heard that barefoot walking is allowed, I was hoping there might be at least a little bit of a red clay path. I booked through Nol-eun-beop and visited several places... As the saying goes, generosity is measured by food, and everything was great, but the disappointment with the breakfast left me with some regrets about this trip with Nol-eun-beop... The breakfasts for other guests even had beautiful decorations... At other places, they paid extra attention to my mother because I brought her with me, but in that respect, this place... ㅠㅠ I think it would be better if you paid a little more attention to breakfast for other guests, or if you removed the "breakfast included" label and just served fruit. Or even just boiling potatoes or eggs would be nice... I wasn't asking for a grand breakfast, but I just wanted a warm and sincere one... It is such a great place to stay, but I am left with a lot of regrets... Oh, and I left inquiries and chat messages, but you never replied even once. I even called directly to verify things after searching on Naver, but that was a bit... I wish you had replied to the chat messages immediately as well. You were kind when you answered the phone though~
