I wanted to try the famous Jinju Naengmyeon and tour Jinju Fortress, and luckily, "How to Play" had a makgeolli-making experience and a Hanwoo dinner course available. I knew I absolutely had to go, so I pestered my husband to sign up for the experience, and we went. However, my husband wasn't feeling well due to a company dinner the day before, so we had to give up on sightseeing in the village, and I ended up participating in the makgeolli-making alone. It was a bit disappointing, but the history and stories of the alcohol I heard while steaming the glutinous rice were fascinating, and the hands-on nature of the process made it feel even more meaningful. Above all, I never knew the sound of makgeolli fermenting could be so delightful. The Hanwoo we had for dinner... it truly melted in my mouthβwords can't even describe it. The lettuce served with it was so delicious that I couldn't help but keep asking for refills. They even generously added brisket to the ramen I requested for my husband, who wasn't feeling well, and the unlimited makgeolli was so tasty that I couldn't stop reaching for more. A class reunion was taking place at the table next to us, and they shared various foods with us, which warmed our hearts for no reason. Also, perhaps because we had traveled down from Gyeonggi-do, the authentic Gyeongsang-do dialect we kept hearing was truly fascinating. Unlike hearing just one or two people speak it in the outside world, it was a unique experience to hear everyone around us speaking with a Gyeongsang accent. The next day, worried about traffic, we woke up early and couldn't even properly say goodbye. We stopped by a famous arboretum nearby before returning home. The accommodation was spacious and comfortable, making it a great place to rest. Once home, we followed the instructions to keep stirring the makgeolli to let it ferment. We enjoyed the finished makgeolli with jeon (Korean pancakes), and the taste was truly a delicacy. From the experience to the wrap-up, it was a trip that will remain in our memories for a long time.
