Thanks to an acquaintance, I had the opportunity to experience making traditional liquor at a Jongga-jip historic house in Yeongwol. In the evening, while tasting various fermented drinks brewed by the Head Madam of Jogyundang, I listened to the house's ancient stories. These were stories only the Head Madam could tell: the tales of the hip-and-gable roof and the sun, moon, and stars hidden within it. The stories of the wild pear tree behind the 350-year-old house and the priceless pine tree in front of the main gate seeped into my heart as enchantingly as the Head Madam's homemade liquor on a night when stars were pouring down. At Jogyundang, which offered a special experience that went beyond a simple Hanok stay, the breakfast prepared by the Head Madam was simple yet deeply resonant, leaving me with the touching feeling that I was being treated as a meaningful presence here. I became curious to see what Jogyundang would look like and feel like in autumn. Once you experience the comfortable atmosphere of this 300-year-old historic house and the meals filled with the Head Madam's heartfelt care, it is a place you will want to visit again.
