This two-day, one-night trip to Gochang was a meaningful journey that deeply imprinted a comprehensive image of the region, as it synthesized all the local attractions we had previously visited in fragments. Upon arriving in Gochang, we received welcome drinks and souvenir gifts at a lovely café, and as we introduced ourselves, the trip officially began. Our first destination, Seonunsa Temple, displayed beautiful autumn foliage that exceeded our expectations, leaving the entire group in awe and deep emotion. Although I had visited Seonunsa before to see the red spider lilies, this was my first time seeing the autumn leaves; in my personal opinion, it was far more atmospheric and enchanting than Naejangsa Temple. I believe this was due to the reflection of the foliage in Dosolcheon Stream, and the spectacle was so breathtaking that I was reluctant to leave, regretting that our time there was so short. We had come to our next destination, Gushipo Beach, with high expectations as it is known as a famous sunset spot, but that day was covered in thick clouds, so we ended up just staring at the gray sky. I suppose the small fireworks display was the only consolation. The second day was somewhat cold with temperatures dropping significantly and wind blowing, but fortunately, it did not hinder our travels. In the morning, I took a walk through the Ungok Ramsar Wetland, which looked like pristine nature in its original state, similar to the Gotjawal forests of Jeju Island. If I come back personally, I would like to take the tourist train and explore more places. The final destination was Gochang Eupseong Fortress; having visited this spring to see the cherry blossoms, I was curious to see what the autumn scenery would be like. The fortress, with its ancient and venerable autumn atmosphere—quite different from the bright and cheerful vibe of spring—was indeed very beautiful. I also briefly participated in a Pansori experience at the Pansori Experience Center next to the fortress. The facilitator led the session with great enthusiasm, making it a fun and informative time. I wrapped up the trip at a cafe called Joyangwan; it was a cafe with a really nice atmosphere that I liked, making for a great finale. In summary, regarding this trip to Gochang: 1. The destinations were great; 2. The food was plentiful and delicious, true to Jeolla cuisine; 3. The guide was calm and dignified; and 4. The Gochang tour guides were very kind and wonderful. One regrettable aspect was that the highlight of this trip to Gochang was the autumn foliage at Seonunsa Temple, and I wish more time had been allocated there. Given the weather conditions on the day, watching the sunset at Gushipo Beach was impossible; most of my companions also felt it was a shame that we had to head there at the scheduled time. Additionally, I would like to suggest moving the morning departure time forward by at least 30 minutes on weekends during this season when the days are short. We left at 9 a.m., but due to weekend traffic, we arrived at Seonunsa just as late as 3 p.m. Since it starts getting dark by 5 p.m., the time available for sightseeing on the first day felt too short. I believe that if the itinerary were managed with more flexibility, taking these factors into account, it would make for a much better trip. In any case, this trip made me decide that I must return every autumn to see the foliage at Seonunsa Temple in Gochang, which is a significant gain. I am also grateful for the hard work of the activists promoting Gochang!
